Avian Bird Flu

Latest situation

Update 15 May 2021: The risk of avian influenza in poultry with good biosecurity has been reduced to ‘low’ for all poultry. As a result:

  • the mandatory enhanced biosecurity requirements that were brought in as part of the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) were lifted at midday on Saturday 15 May 2021.
  • from midday 15 May 2021 all bird gatherings, including poultry gatherings and pigeon gatherings organised for races from mainland Europe, are permitted, provided organisers notify the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) at least 7 days before the event takes place and that they comply with the provisions of the new General Licence.
